Update #5: Samples in and most finals determined
almost 5 years ago – Wed, May 01, 2019 at 09:41:36 PM

Dear Team DoubleSix:

Summary

1) Thanks to Jazzy Bear, including for an awesome clip.

2) Samples are in (video below in the Details section) and most finals have been decided (everything in Bold Type).

 ..

3) Upcoming Samples

  • Teal + Green Smoke with Red and Gray
  • Light Teal + Blue with Orange and Blue-Gray
  • Green + Yellow Smoke with Indigo, Teal, and Blue-Gray
  • Flat Slate Gray with Red, Teal, Gold, Silver, and White
  • Glitter Light Blue with Blue-Gray and Red
  • Glow-in-the-Dark with Black and Gray
  • Marble Teal with Blue-Gray, Red, and Orange
  • Marble Brown with Gold, Silver, Orange, and Teal

3) Survey Results: Teal for Jazzy Bear; Glow-in-the-Dark is a go) and Concerns (possible repeated votes, so log-in required again).

4) Survey #5: isa quick one (make the red frosted or clear? Darken the light blue frosted?).

5) Final week: we will hopefully get photos of the next round of samples, but regardless, full refund is guaranteed even after the campaign ends.  Increased marketing is planned.

DETAILS

1) Check out this nasty GIF that Jazzy Bear produced.  The video below it has it with stereo sound.  And a general big thanks to Jazzy Bear for his continued help in the comments and behind the scenes, including getting the ads on BoardGameGeek and the mention into the BGG Crowdfunding newsletter, among other things.

..

2) Samples came in while I was on spring break, and was able to check them out yesterday.  Overall, I am very pleased with the quality.  I go through all of them in the video below, and reference survey #4 results.  (Note: a few times in the video I say "prefer" when I actually mean "like.")

 ..

Part of the reason White Smoke with Black is tentative is because (a) there is a possible similar looking glow-in-the-dark option, (2) it is very similar to Classic Ivory with Black, and (3) samples with dark gray and teal pips are pending.

Clear Dark Blue with Gold is a house choice (ie. my strong preference).

Teal was the most voted color for the next Jazzy Bear, so I ordered the following samples:  Teal + Green Smoke with Red and Gray; Light Teal + Blue with Orange and Blue-Gray; Marble Teal with Blue-Gray, Red, and Orange.

Flat Black with White was added as a result of backers requesting more traditional combos, and I also have been wanting them, mostly because I love flat black, and to complement the Classics (Glossy Ivory with Black).

3) Survey #4 Results: as of this update, there were 430 responses (thanks for voting; however, see concerns below)!  You can check the results out here.  They helped determine final pip colors, as well as what to explore for the new Jazzy Bear (teal was the top color), and confirming that Glow-in-the-Dark is popular enough to produce (51% likely to order a 4-pack).  Different glow-in-the-dark colors are possible, so I have asked for photos of various samples, though we might go with the standard, with black/dark pips.

Survey Concerns:  Survey #3 had 213 responses, and Survey #4 had twice as many (430).  This was possibly due to more visibility, but I had also tweaked it to allow non-Googlers to vote (there were some complaints), which then had the unwelcome side-effect of allowing repeated voting (so, there might have been some ballot-box stuffing).  For any future surveys, I will go back to log-in required to prevent any possible abuse (so apologies to the non-Googlers out there).

If any of you can recommend a free online survey tool that doesn't require a log in, but also limits repeated votes (perhaps based on IP address or something), please do share.

4) Survey #5 (requires Google log-in...sorry!): link HERE

5) Final week: there will be a bit more marketing now, so that is great if we can hit a couple of more stretch goals.  I once was hoping to surpass the Gen One Kickstarter total of $133K, but at this point, I will be happy if we crack $100K.

I hope to get photos of the next round of samples before the campaign ends, but all final dice might be locked in after the May 1st campaign end date.  Remember, you can still get a full refund even after the campaign ends if you are not happy with the final options.

Thanks, team!  Let's enjoy this final stretch,

Matt
